WJEC Hospitality and Catering Unit 2 Toolkit for Teachers

If you teach WJEC Hospitality and Catering, you will know that completing Unit 2 NEA paperwork can be incredibly time-consuming.

Writing detailed comments for each assessment section often means repeating the same feedback in slightly different ways, while trying to stay aligned with the wording of the mark scheme.

This toolkit was created to make that process quicker.

As a teacher, I originally built a personal spreadsheet of comment banks for every section of the Unit 2 coursework, using the language and descriptors from the exam board mark scheme. The idea was simple: save time, reduce repetition, and make marking less painful.

The spreadsheet worked… sort of. You can see for yourself.

It became a chaotic mess of formulas, broken links, and logic that only vaguely made sense to me, as I was trying to make it easier to copy and paste. After several colleagues asked if I would share it, I realised it needed a proper rebuild.

So this toolkit was born.

Each toolkit section asks a series of straightforward multiple choice questions based on the assessment criteria. Using weighted responses and pre-built comment models, the tool generates indicative commentary based on the criteria selections made that you can use to compare your own professional judgement with the generated output.

A few important disclaimers:

This is not an official marking tool for WJEC Hospitality and Catering Unit 2.

It is not diagnostic software.

It does not “read” student work or make marking decisions for you.

Professional judgement still matters.

This tool is designed to support teachers by reducing admin time, not replace assessor expertise.

The wording generated is intentionally generic, gender-neutral, and aligned closely with mark scheme language so that it can be adapted quickly to suit individual learners.

You can regenerate responses as many times as you like before copying and editing. There are a variety of sentences built in to the model which means there are over 10,000 unique comment combinations across the toolkit.

My hope is simple: less time wrestling with NEA paperwork, and more time focusing on actual teaching.

This toolkit is an independent teacher-created administrative support resource. It is not affiliated with WJEC, does not assess learner work, and should not replace professional judgement or official moderation guidance.
